For over 5000 years, the
use of acupuncture and herbs for maintaining health has been recorded
in Asian cultures. This makes it the oldest known form of healthcare
known to man. As medical knowledge has increased over the years, so in
turn, has the knowledge of how acupuncture can effect our health in a
positive way. Scientific research tells us that acupuncture accesses
the sympathetic nervous system, initiating a chain of electrical events
in the body. As the body communicates through electrical impulses,
acupuncture can help to keep the communication clear. Acupuncture helps
to increase and clear communication from the nerves to the brain, and
from the brain to the organs and tissues of the body. The Chinese call
this electrical energy Qi (pronounced "chee"). Another function of
acupuncture is to increase circulation or blood flow in the body. Blood
brings oxygen to tissues as well as white blood cells which help heal
damaged areas of the body.
Moxibustion, also known as
moxa, is a therapy utilizing the herb mugwort (artemisia
vulgaris). Practitioners warm areas and acupuncture points
with the burning moxa to stimulate circulation, blood flow, and Qi.
Acupuncture
is safe, natural,
drug-free, and extremely effective. Recognized by the National
Institute of Health [NIH] and the World Health Organization [WHO] to be
successful in the treatment of a wide variety of medical problems,
acupuncture is well known for its ability to diminish or eliminate
acute and chronic pain. It is an effective treatment for anxiety,
depression, allergies, fertility, OB/GYN, skin, athletic enhancement,
digestive/GI disorders, and addictions.
